Dodge Viper RT10

Dodge Viper RT/10

Retro looks and massive power led many to call the Viper the spiritual successor to the legendary Cobra and finally gave America a real rival to the all conquering Corvette.A gargantuan 8 litre V10 truck engine allowed rapid, effortless acceleration in any gear (70 mph only required 1400rpm in sixth!) and a top speed approaching 170mph. The bodywork reflected the performance with side mounted exhausts and huge bulging arches accommodating massive 13 inch wide rear wheels. The RT10 came in convertible form only, but a soft-top was provided for emergencies, with a hardtop becoming standard on its successor, the Viper GTS.

B Engineering Edions

B Engineering Edions
The startling Edonis is the work of newly formed B Engineering, situated at the old Bugatti factory deep in Italian supercar country at Campogalliano. In fact it is Bugatti's fabled EB110 that now forms the basis of the Edonis. The carbon fibre tub and chassis are used along with a highly modified version of the EB110's twin turbo V12, but the stunning bodywork is all new.Performance is astonishing. When the turbos light up, the 720 bhp Edonis is suddenly propelled like a rocket, covering a standing km in under 20 sec, onto a verified 223mph maximum speed. Straight line urge is matched by class leading handling plus race car steering feel.Just 21 of these monsters will be built, each costing their lucky owners almost half a million pounds!

Saleen S7

Saleen S7
The Saleen S7 is the brainchild of Steve Saleen, previously best known for his highly tuned Ford Mustangs. The carbon fibre bodied S7 is a visually stunning vehicle featuring a camera for reversing and Lamborghini style swing-up doors. The interior is equally stunning, following the new supercar trend of sculptured leather and aluminium.Power comes from a highly modified Ford V8 turning out no less than 550bhp, enough to catapult the S7 to a near 240mph top speed passing 60mph in a verified 3.3sec along the way. UK cars should be available shortly, priced at around £250,000.

Porsche Carrera GT

Porsche Carrera GT
Released at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show, Porsche's Carrera GT was a final production version of the concept car first seen at the 2001 Paris Auto Salon. It was Porsche's first limited production supercar since 959 production stopped in 1988. At the time of launch, it was one of the few available products that rivaled the Ferrari Enzo.Unlike the 911, which carried the company for four decades, the Carrera GT was complete bottom up design. Its styling was thankfully unchanged from Paris show car and departed from the traditional Porsche shape which the 959 couldn't escape.

Koenisegg CCR

Koenisegg CCR
While the CC8S is undoubtedly a fine supercar, it's performance claims proved a little optimistic when put to independent tests. So to restore their name to the top of the performance tree Koenigsegg have unleashed the astounding CCR. If the CC8S' 655bhp was too feeble for you, supercharger tweaks have released no less than 806bhp in the CCR, not to mention the near 700lbft of torque! The racing nature of this missile is continued with the fitment of a torque sensing LSD, plus fully adjustable dampers and cockpit adjustable ride heightThe CCR briefly claimed the title of the world's fastest production car with an independently clocked 242mph before being ousted by the Veyron. However, Koenigsegg can lay claim to the recently set outright fastest top speed during a lap of the famous Nurburgring - an amazing 194mph!

Ford GT

Ford GT
Although primarily known as a 4 time Le Mans winning race car, the road going version of the GT40 could well lay claim to being the world first supercar.Ford created the GT40 for racing in a bid to outdo Ferrari after the Italian's had famously rejected their attempt to buy them in the early 60's. GT racing regulations meant that 100 GT40s had to be produced. Of these 100 racers, 31 were 'adapted' for use on the road with Ford later adding a handful of Mark III's made specifically for the road (these can be distinguished by their four headlamps). The GT40 has become one of the most collectable classics ever, with examples fetching well into six figures and spawning a still thriving replica industry.

Ferrari Enzo

Ferrari Enzo
The new Ferrari Enzo promises to be the most focused drivers Ferrari to date with Formula 1 technology used throughout. The functionally styled carbon fibre bodywork features race car levels of downforce aided by a state of the art aerodynamic undertray. The F1 experience is completed with a lightning fast 6-speed sequential paddle shift transmission, powerful carbon/ceramic brakes and a 'Schumacher' style multi-function steering wheel.Power is courtesy of a normally aspirated 650bhp V12 which sees the Enzo nudge 220mph with F1 rivalling acceleration along the way. Priced at an eye watering £425,000, and with only 399 to be built, the Enzo is already assured of it's place in the supercar hall of fame.

Bugatti Veyron

Bugatti Veyron
First shown as a concept at the 2000 Paris motor show, the long awaited (and delayed) Bugatti Veyron has now become a production reality.Using a revolutionary 'W' layout, the Veyron's 8 litre 16 cylinder Quad Turbo engine generates the highest power output ever seen in a full production car. Around 1000bhp is delivered to all four wheels via a 7-speed twin-clutch gearbox, enough to propel the Veyron to a then world record top speed of 253mph! Acceleration is equally astounding with 60mph arriving in a scarcely believable 2.4seconds and 300kmh arriving from standstill in a claimed 17 seconds (cf. 22 sec for a McLaren F1).The project has been plagued by a series of infuriating delays but the first of a projected 300 cars over a six year production run started arriving at the end of 2005, each priced at an eye watering 1 million Euros!

Audi R8

Audi R8
Audi's glorious new R8 looks set to be the greatest challenge yet to the class leading Porsche 911. The R8 benefits from a variety of Audi group models. Originally based on the on the Le Mans Quattro prototype, it's chassis comes from Lamborghini's Gallardo, while it's stunning V8 powerplant is courtesy of the equally impressive RS4. In the R8, this 414bhp unit delivers 0-60mph in 4.5sec and an unrestricted 187mph top speed. The R8 is strictly a two seater but is both spacious and practical, with interior quality exceeding even Audi's usual impeccable standards. Four wheel drive is channelled through Audi's R-Tronic sequential gearbox, as development costs precluded the use of the superior twin clutch DSG system. Ceramic brakes are an option as are the innovative magnetic dampers that adjust the ride on the fly. With Audi's star shining brighter than ever before, demand will be huge. However, only time will tell if the Porsche 911 has finally met it's match.
